Welcome to Saia!
Saia is a type of artisanal jewelry made entirely by hand. A small, ethical company committed to authenticity, sustainability and quality.
I design and create all the pieces by hand in my workshop in Mallorca.
I only use recycled and sustainable silver, and recycled 18k gold.
Saia was born four years ago as a result of a personal crisis, which led me to land on the yoga mat. In yoga, in addition to essential oils, meditations and mantras, there was always a crystal near me.
A teacher recommended that I use a crystal to deepen my inner work, but I didn't quite understand why. My scientific mind (I'm a nurse) could understand that using essential oils topically and olfactorily would help, since my mind understands how oils work when they come into contact with our body. But a crystal? Well, I thought. Let's try it.
Working with raw clear quartz was another level, I felt stronger, more confident and my meditations were on a higher level. I did some research and decided that I had to carry a crystal with me at all times. But I couldn't find a piece of jewelry that I liked that wasn't the typical pendulum-shaped, pierced crystal.
Through Instagram I found some pieces that I fell in love with, but they were on the other side of the world and between shipping and customs it was going to cost me a fortune.
I bought a quartz from Brazil and took it to a jewelry store in my city to have it mounted the way I liked it. It was expensive, but much cheaper than if I had bought it on the other side of the world.
I liked my piece so much that I ordered one for my mother and sister.
Our friends and family loved the pieces and they worked wonderfully.
One day my friend Marta saw my necklace and told me that she loved it and wanted one just like it. I told her the whole story. "Make them yourself, San. I love them and you have good taste. Don't be silly and make them yourself!"
I thought "what a madness" as I, a nurse who loves her profession, am going to study jewelry. Bah, I will continue ordering them from this jewelry store and that's it.
More and more people asked me about the necklace, at yoga, at work, even when we went out to dinner a couple of waitresses asked me about my necklace. My boyfriend told me "I don't know San, people are interested, do something."
I completely abandoned the idea, it seemed crazy to me. But every time I met with Marta, she insisted. So one morning after a meditation I went to Google to try to find a jewelry school on the island.
Everything was quite official, modules. Long courses lasting a couple of years and a lot of money. With my shifts it was impossible to adapt to that. And suddenly a workshop appeared, it was expensive but I got a good feeling over the phone. I went to meet them and fell in love with Toña and Xisco (my teachers) and their workshop.
So within two days I was signed up for goldsmithing classes one day a week for 4 hours. I'll tell you the rest of the story a little later.
But that's how Saia was born, from a crisis, from chaos, from mud... Everything that followed after that first piece was a WONDERFUL rebirth as a person.
