Palo Santo or sacred wood is a tree species, the species is called Bulnesia sarmientoi. It is found in Mexico, Peru, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina.
The properties of this wood begin to develop when the tree dries out and dies naturally. Once the tree dies it must be left in place for two to five years for the oils to mature sufficiently.
Containing a high concentration of limonene, a natural substance extracted from the oil of citrus peels, Palo Santo has a woody scent, with hints of mint, eucalyptus and lemon.
The smoke from this wood contains medicinal, cleansing and antiseptic properties. It helps to clean and purify the environment.
